Frequently asked questions

Getting Started

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

Many people seek therapy because they are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, or are facing challenges they no longer want to navigate alone. Therapy can help you better understand yourself, improve relationships, develop coping strategies, and create meaningful change in your life.

What if i’ve never been to therapy before?

Many of my clients are attending therapy for the first time. It is completely normal to feel uncertain about what to expect. Therapy is not about having the "right" things to say or knowing exactly where to begin. My role is to create a supportive, collaborative environment where we can explore your concerns and work toward meaningful change together.

What can i expect during the first session?

The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another. We will discuss what brings you to therapy, your personal history, your goals, and any questions you may have about the therapy process. Together, we will determine whether we are a good fit and begin developing a plan for our work together.

How often do sessions occur?

Most clients begin with weekly sessions. As therapy progresses, we may adjust the frequency based on your needs, goals, and progress.

How long does therapy last?

The length of therapy varies depending on your goals, the concerns you are addressing, and your individual circumstances. Some clients seek short-term support focused on a specific challenge, while others benefit from longer-term work focused on deeper patterns and personal growth.

my approach to therapy

what types of concerns do you help with?

I work with adults experiencing a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, relationship challenges, life transitions, identity concerns, self-esteem issues, grief and loss, and emotional overwhelm.

Do you only work with athletes?

No. While athlete mental health is one of my primary areas of focus and I have specialized expertise working with athletes, coaches, and members of the sport community, I work with adults from many different backgrounds and professions.

Do you only work with men?

No. I welcome adults from all backgrounds. However, men's mental health is one of my primary areas of focus, and I frequently work with men navigating relationships, stress, burnout, fatherhood, identity concerns, and major life transitions.

Do you work with adolescents?

My practice primarily focuses on working with adults. If you are seeking services for an adolescent, please contact me to discuss your situation and determine whether I may be an appropriate fit.

What is your approach to therapy?

My approach is integrative, trauma-informed, and client-centered. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based approaches, and psychodynamic theory. Therapy is tailored to your individual needs, goals, and experiences.

telehealth & psypact

do you offer telehealth?

Yes. I provide secure telehealth services for clients throughout Colorado and participating PSYPACT states.

What is psypact?

PSYPACT (Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact) allows licensed psychologists to provide telepsychology services across participating states. As a PSYPACT-authorized psychologist (APIT #2262), I am able to provide telehealth services to clients in more than 40 participating states.

How do I know if my state participates in psypact?

You can visit the PSYPACT website for the most current list of participating states, or contact me directly and I would be happy to help determine whether services are available in your location.

fees & insurance

What are your fees?

Individual therapy sessions are $200 for a standard 45-minute session. I have limited availability for sliding-scale but please don’t hesitate to ask.

Do you offer a free consultation?

Yes. I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation to discuss your concerns, answer questions, and determine whether we may be a good fit to work together.

Do you accept insurance?

I do not currently accept insurance directly. If you are covered through an insurance plan, you may still be eligible for out-of-network benefits to reimburse some costs of therapy. Please contact your insurance company to learn more about your plan and coverage benefits. I am happy to provide a superbill that you may submit to your provider for reimbursement.

Can I use my out-of-network benefits?

Many insurance plans provide reimbursement for out-of-network mental health services. Upon request, I can provide a monthly superbill that you may submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement.

How do payments work?

Payment is due at the time of service and is processed electronically using a secure payment system.

What forms of payment do you accept?

I accept major credit cards, debit cards, and HSA/FSA cards when applicable.

What if I’m not sure whether we are a good fit?
